Discover Your Perfect Frameless Glass Shower Enclosure
Welcome to our comprehensive guide on frameless glass shower enclosures. We understand that selecting a shower enclosure can be a daunting task, especially if you're new to home renovation. With so many factors to consider, getting the right answers early is crucial. Our aim is to help you grasp the essentials of shower doors, making your buying experience smooth and informed.
Here at Glass Tailors we provide a custom designed shower enclosure for any bathroom style. We can install everything from fixed screens, hinged, sliding or bi-folding doors to complete walk in enclosures and steam cabins. You may have a shower next to a bathtub which requires a knee or half wall; or a shower that requires two or three glass panels. Whether you have a low roof space, an old beam in the way, or simply an old sized shower tray that just doesn't come with a matching door. We have many years’ experience in creating bespoke shower enclosures made to your direct requirements, that will look amazing.

Walk-Ins & Fixed Screens
Rather than having an enclosure for the door to swing, you can simply install a walk-in enclosure. These alluring, minimalist walk-in configurations are made of toughened safety glass and allow you no fuss showering.

In-Line Enclosures
These enclosures fit in a shower that has a single straight opening and include bi-folding doors (meaning sliding doors), single swing doors, and any door and panel configuration without angled panels.

Return-Panel Enclosures
The panel doesn’t line up to the door, but instead sits at a 90-degree angle with this option. You can choose from a swing door or by-folding door with a return panel. Two or three glass panels may be required to complete your shower design.

Quadrant Enclosures
Rather than having the door on one side of the enclosure, quadrant panels can conveniently face diagonally into the room, ultimately saving on space. Also, these form a larger access point, making it easier to get in and out.

3-Sided Enclosures
Our 3-sided frameless shower enclosures inject a statement of style into any bathroom space. The absolute versatility of these 3-sided shower enclosures, made from fully frameless glass, can be adapted to fit any space.

Custom Solutions for Unique Spaces
At Glass Tailors, we understand that every bathroom is different. We provide tailored solutions for unique spaces:
When choosing the perfect shower enclosure, start by looking at the space you have available. Think about the type of shower tray you’ll need, your budget, and the style of enclosure that suits you best, such as a sliding door, hinged door, or quadrant design. Make sure the enclosure fits well with your bathroom layout and works with your plumbing setup. This way, you’ll find an option that’s both stylish and practical for your space. Our most popular configurations include inline, return and corner enclosures. To learn more about shower shapes and other customization options, size up your shower above.

Here’s a consideration that entails both logistics and aesthetics. Do you prefer your shower door to slide open and closed or would you like it to swing open? If you choose the second option, check out the actual space to figure out which direction the door should swing — right or left.

Swing Doors: Much like any door in your house, these doors swing out into the bathroom to allow entry into your shower.
Sliding Enclosures: A stylish and space-saving option, sliding doors move along a single line. Some sliding enclosures feature bypass doors, where both sides slide, while others feature a sliding panel coupled with one that is fixed.
Rolling Doors: Much like sliding doors, rolling doors travel along a single plane. However, advanced ball bearings ensure a premium glide along the track on a fixed panel.
Panel Enclosures: For fans of simplicity, panel-style enclosures offer the purest form of entry. Assuming a strategically positioned shower head, and featuring no moving parts, panel enclosures keep the water in, while allowing for total freedom when entering.
If you are installing a sliding or rolling shower door, position the inner panel by the wall where the shower head is located for maximum waterproofing.

For swing doors or door and panel configurations, we recommend that the hinge is opposite of the shower head. The layout of your bathroom may determine the placement of your swing door.

Both form and function are crucial when selecting a shower enclosure. While Glass Tailors enclosures can be installed on various wall materials, the type of wall can affect the installation process. Thinner glass works in most spaces, but heavier options like 10mm glass require more attention to wall material. Before placing an order, identify the location of your wall studs, as these will anchor your door and hinges.
While standard off-the-shelf shower doors typically range in height from 1850mm to 2000mm, we offer a level of customization that goes far beyond the standard. Our doors can be tailored to any height you need, up to an impressive maximum of 2500mm. This flexibility ensures you get the perfect fit for your space, designed to match your unique needs and preferences.
Our frameless shower doors are expertly crafted to deflect water, ensuring they won’t hold water like a bathtub. Seals are fitted along all door edges for added protection. To maintain their durability, avoid directing water toward vulnerable areas like the hinges. If needed, hinge plates can be added for extra reinforcement. When designing your shower, consider the direction of your showerhead to keep water flow controlled and your layout optimized.
All our shower doors are made from toughened safety glass to meet regulatory standards and ensure your safety. The glass undergoes a tempering process after being cut and drilled, which enhances its strength. If it breaks, it shatters into small, safe fragments instead of sharp, dangerous shards, offering peace of mind and reducing the risk of injury.
Low iron glass offers exceptional clarity compared to standard glass, which often has a green tint from higher iron content. This glass maximizes brightness, making it perfect for bathrooms with pale tiles or marble backgrounds. While low iron glass has an aqua-coloured edge, the darker edge appearance increases with larger sizes due to light refraction. It strikes the ideal balance of iron content to ensure durability while enhancing visual appeal.
Proper ventilation in your shower area is crucial. If ventilation is limited, ensure there’s at least a 50mm gap between the top of the glass and the ceiling. Depending on your bathroom's ventilation setup, including window and vent placement, a larger gap may be necessary. The precise measurement will be determined on-site to suit your specific needs.
8mm toughened safety glass weighs approximately 20kg per square meter, while the 10mm option weighs around 25kg per square meter. To ensure optimal support, we carefully select hinges based on the specific weight and size of your door.
We offer a wide range of luxurious glass finishes, including clear, patterned, etched, tinted, fluted/reeded, and more, providing options for every privacy preference. Our enclosures use safety-tempered glass, which is five times stronger than standard glass, ensuring both elegance and durability.

Our finish colour options are designed to complement the latest bathroom hardware trends, offering a stylish palette to suit your personal taste. Crafted with care, they ensure lasting lustre and shine, keeping your bathroom looking stunning for years to come.

Our shower door handles and knobs are typically centred at 950mm from the base. Want a different height? Just let us know, and we’ll customize it to your preference.
Spontaneous glass breakage is rare but can occur due to a nickel inclusion within the glass. This small defect expands or contracts at a different rate than the surrounding glass during temperature changes, leading to breakage. Other potential causes include improper installation or the glass shifting out of position and coming into contact with a hard surface like a tile.

Installation times for shower glass doors vary based on complexity. A fixed glass panel typically takes up to 2 hours, while a door with a fixed panel requires 3–4 hours. Fully bespoke showers may take 4–6 hours to complete. For bespoke sliding doors with 2–3 panels, installation, including cleaning and adjustments, can also take up to 6 hours.
